Enalyzer Help Center

Can I import responses to an Enalyzer survey?

You can use the Import Responses option in the Surveys area and combine responses in the Reports area from two identical surveys, re-upload edited data, or bring in your own data.

Step 1: Get your survey ready

Before importing, you’ll first need a survey to import your data to. Your survey’s format and your data file format must match exactly.

Step 2: Prepare the CSV file

The best and easiest way to prepare your CSV file is to export your survey's raw data file in CSV format and follow it with the responses you want to import. Your CSV file should be UTF-8 encoded. Finally, if you would like to import email addresses, you are not able to match it to the Enalyzer system variable, but you can create your own background variable and match it to that.

Format per question type

  • Multiple choice (multiple response)
    • One column per option with a value of 0 or 1
    • Number of columns must match the number of response options
    • If the final response option is open-ended, the file should have an extra mapping for the open answer
    • The columns should automatically be identified and grouped into one select option
  • Multiple choice (single response)
    • Single-digit between 1 and the total number of response options
    • If the final response option is set to be open-ended, the file should have an extra mapping for the open answer
Note: the number in the CSV file represents the option number and not the value
  • Rating scale/Image choice/Net Promoter Score®/Recommendation score
    • Single-digit between 1 and scale length
    • If "allow open answers" is enabled, an extra mapping for the open answer is possible

Note: the number in the CSV file represents the option number and not the value
  • Open answer
    • Maximum 4000 characters of text
  • Matrices (multiple choice and rating scale)
    • One mapping per sub-question
    • Single-digit between 1 and scale length

Note: the number in the CSV file represents the option number and not the value
  • Input field
    • The format depends on the question's validation: text, numeric, email or custom.
    • Should be imported as one line
  • Background variable (text type)
    • Should be imported as one line
  • Background variable (selection list)
    • Single-digit between 1 and the total number of options

Note: the number in the CSV file represents the option number and not the value
  • Background variable - Date
    • Date format is MM-DD-YYYY
At the moment, ranking and point distribution question types are not supported by the import responses option.

Step 3: Import responses

  1. Navigate to your survey and click responses on the side menu
  2. Click on the options menu and select imported responses
  3. If this is your first time importing responses, click on the green import button. If you already have imported responses, click on the add icon (add-surveys.PNG)
  4. Upload your UTF-8 encoded CSV file
  5. Map the fields in the CSV file to the survey variable. If there is a CSV field that you do not wish to map to a survey variable, simply check the skip option. Click next.
  6. Review the number of responses ready to be imported and click done to finish the import.

Imported responses are not included in the same list as the respondents you've collected via the survey link, email or other methods. Instead, they will always be found in their own "imported responses" area.
